I haven’t sent anything out about the history of nuclear power since mid-December. In the previous eight-and-a-half years, I consistently wrote a small piece every week or so, forty pieces a year, 342 in total. I had no grand aim. I just needed an outlet in which to jot down those minor aspects of nuclear power’s story (and not the entire tale, just the first fifteen years) that were not important enough to include in Reactor: A Global History of Nuclear Power but that intrigued or amused me.
I have to say, this ragbag of offcuts and outtakes proved to be so much fun!
Now, after two months of absence, during which production of the first volume of Reactor, titled Visions: Volume I, 1942-1957, kicked off and the writing of Volume II languorously launched, I’m back!
What can you expect to see and how often? Well, I’ll continue to issue whimsical or beguiling tidbits of nuclear’s history (although there won’t be many of those until later this year, simply because right now I’m unsure what to include or exclude in Volume II), but I’ll also let you know about the production and publication of Volume I. As of today, I have no firm issuance schedule, so what you get and when … well, wait and see.
Oh, and take early note: there may well be a chance to get a prepublication copy of the book!
I hope you enjoy the ride!
